Estes Park Winter Activities

Estes Park is a beautiful place to visit with a wide variety of things to do. Spring, summer, fall, and winter all offer their own unique experiences. Many people think of visiting during the summer and fall, which are beautiful times. There are so many Estes Park winter activities to consider as well. At Backbone Adventures, we think winter is a wonderful time to explore the Rocky Mountains. Let’s take a look at our top 5 best things to do in Estes Park during the winter.

Top 5 must-do Estes Park winter activities?

  1. Ride a Razor- Winter in Estes Park is amazing because of how peaceful it is. If you've never ridden an ATV (Razor) in the snow, it's something you must try. It's a blast! At Backbone Adventures we offer Razor and Jeep snow rentals. Rocky Mountain National Park has a great sled hill open all winter. A lot of families like to rent sleds along with their Jeep rental. There are many hills to sled just off the Jeep trails. You can grab a sled at our shop 7 days a week, all winter long.

  2. Visit Hidden Valley- You can tube, snowshoe, or back-country ski. Hidden Valley opened in 1955 as a ski area. In 1992 it closed the lifts down but is still open to visitors to explore many fun winter activities.

  3. Visit YMCA of the Rockies- At YMCA of the Rockies, there are plenty of winter activities to enjoy. From axe throwing to dog sledding, and ice skating, there is a plethora of winter fun to keep you busy.

  4. Go Ice Fishing- Ice fishing is allowed in all open fishing lakes and ponds in Rocky Mountain National Park and it’s a lot of fun. All fishing regulations apply and no mechanical equipment is allowed in designated wilderness, so only hand augers are permitted.

  5. Explore Downtown Estes Park- There is never a shortage of things to do in downtown Estes. You can see a movie, get a caramel apple, shop, and visit many wonderful restaurants and breweries.
