Best Time for ATV Rentals in Estes Park Colorado

Backbone Adventures is open year-round. Estes Park doesn’t get the snow depth other mountain towns in Colorado see. So, doing an ATV rental is great in the wintertime. In fact, that’s our favorite time of year to ride.

In the winter, you have two choices: A half day ride from roughly 11-2 or a full day ride from roughly 11-4 at a discount from the normal full day price. For both choices, we provide a truck and trailer to haul your ATV to and from the trail. We provide trail suggestions, maps, and navigation. If you feel comfortable pulling a trailer, it’s an easy process.

In the summer, you have a lot of choices. First, you must choose if you want to haul the ATV (free truck and trailer provided) to the trail of your choice, or if you would rather meet us at the Johnny Park trail where we have the ATV’s staged and ready to go. This is the hassle-free way of doing it. Please note: The only way to do a full day ride is the first option.

From here, you need to select what time of day you want to ride. For the free truck and trailer option, we only have two ride times (morning and afternoon). If you want to meet us at Johnny Park, you have three options:

The afternoon ride from 12-3 is the most popular and obviously the busiest. Yes, it’s a great time frame. It’s not too early and not too late. However, there are downsides to the 12-3 ride. It’s the warmest time of day and that’s when the wildlife is most often bedded down. Not saying you won’t see wildlife, but the chances are greatly improved in the morning and evening.

Although Colorado is the second most sunny state in the U.S., we do get rain obviously. Most often it happens in the afternoon. Rain in the mountains isn’t like other places. It usually only rains for 20 minutes and then blows on through. Due to the slim chance of rain, my favorite time to ride is in the morning or evening. Again, you get a better chance at wildlife.

Morning and evening rides not only see fewer of our riders out there, it sees fewer local riders as well.

To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I rode in the middle of the day. I like to have more of the trail to myself. It just seems more peaceful.
