Tiny Mountain Town Jeep Loop in Estes Park

Even though I’m into challenging and rocky Jeep trails, sometimes I like to have a more relaxing day.

Quite a few years ago, my wife and I decided to go exploring in a Jeep Rental. We didn’t want anything difficult, but I’ll admit, we were looking to get lost. With so many backroads around the Switzerland Trail area, getting twisted around wasn’t hard to accomplish. In the end, it wound up being one of our favorite and most memorable days in the woods together.

We call it the Tiny Mountain Town Loop.

You start off at Backbone Adventures in Estes Park. Along the way you might decide to see Saint Catherine’s Chapel on the Rock and the Crystal Springs in Allenspark. Eating breakfast at the Meadow Mountain Café is a must. Afterward, you can get supplies and snacks for your journey at the Ferncliff store. You could eat lunch at the Mercantile in Jamestown, but you must stop in at the Gold Hill Store and Pub for coffee and a snack. Along the way, you can tackle some easy dirt mountain roads and even some 4x4 trails.

My best advice is to pick a dirt road you don’t know anything about and get into it. Who knows what life will throw your way. This is what exploring is all about.
